City Police Rolls Out Election Security Plan

The Commissionerate is incharge of five Lok Sabha constituencies—Bangalore North, Bangalore South, Bangalore Central, Bangalore Rural and Chikkaballapur.

The Bangalore city police is gearing up for the elections with  24 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPs) and 52 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACPs), among other officers being lined up for election duty. B. Dayanand, Police Commissioner of Bangalore said that 9,397 officers’ staff, 3,919 home guards, 54 armed squads and 11 central police squads have been deployed for election duties from Bangalore City Police Unit.

The Commissioner said 103 check posts have been installed in eight divisions and 91 fighting squads are operational.

He announced a significant election security plan for the voting that will take place at 8,088 polling stations in Bangalore on April 26across the five constituencies that come under the purview of the Bangalore City Police. He added that over 7500 licensed firearms have been deposited in local police stations.

The five constituencies are Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru South and Chikkaballapur.

The Police Commissioner said that all the arrangements have been made in compliance with the guidelines given by the Election Commission of India. He said that 48 hours prior to polling, all campaigning will stop and people were are required to return to their constituencies and not hold any public meetings or protests. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be in place from April 24, 6 p.m. to April 26 midnight.

Not more than five people can  form a group in the city.

To ensure free and fair conduct of the election and to maintain law and order, 48 hours prior to the polling period i.e. from 6 pm on April 24 to the midnight of April 26, the City Police Commissionerate has prohibited the consumption, sale and storage of liquor, narcotic substances, any other intoxicants in any kind of wholesale or retail outlets in the jurisdiction and prohibition of sale of liquor in liquor shops, wine shops, bars, hotels, restaurants, shops or any other public places.

Security has been tightened and police have warned history sheeters and issued 1,440 warrants.
