HN Halli Residents Demand Road Repairs

BBMP City Development

The HN Halli Lake Road which was dug up in 2019 to lay pipes for water supply is still untarred.

Residents of the H N Halli Lake Road in Ward 90 of Mahadevapura zone hope that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will keep its promise this time of fixing the road by mid-October. A 1.5 km stretch of the road has remained damaged since 2019 when the civic body dug it up to lay  irrigation pipes for water supply.

Vishnu Reddy, Bengaluru Navanirmana Party (BNP) Zonal President, Mahadevapura  said, “In 2019 the HN Halli Lake Road was dug up for almost 1.5 km to lay irrigation pipes after which the road was left untarred. We have been trying to resolve this issue for the past five years, however BBMP has just given false promise and has not done anything about it.”

Srinivas Murthy, Assistant Engineer (A.E) at BBMP, Mahadevapura said, “We were not getting any contractor in the past for HN Halli Lake road repair; however, the funds to repair the road have been released, and it will definitely get repaired within 15 days.”

Reddy said, “No corporator since the past three years, has also created a big delay in the issue, however this issue has been ongoing for five years, what were they doing before that?”

The untarred road at HN Halli Lake has also caused accidents among the residents during the heavy rains in the area.

Jigar Singh, a resident of HN Halli Lake Road said, “I have been staying in this area for the past three years and take this route daily for work and during rain the state of this road is terrible. My bike has skid two times because of the bumps in damaged road.”

Vikram Bhat, Principal Architect and Urban Planner at Urbansynthesis said, “Concerned department should talk to reputed infrastructure companies and invite them to finish the job on priority basis. Design details and standards with specification should be mentioned on BBMPwebsite along with completion time of projects.”

Prakash R, pavement engineer at Roadworks Engineers and Consultant Pvt. Ltd. said, “As a pavement engineer, it’s evident that the road maintenance in HN Halli Lake Road is inadequate. The lack of timely restoration and tarring after excavation work, not only disrupts daily life but also poses safety risks to vehicles. The absence of restoration is a clear violation of proper road construction and maintenance protocols.”
