Bangalore was considered to be the most livable city in the country. However, people with disabilities like blindness, deafness, dwarfism, locomotor disability, etc. face challenges to access restaurants.
Bengaluru: Restaurants don’t easily offer menus that are accessible to visually impaired, people with hearing impairments or locomotor disabilities which puts them at a disadvantage. In December 2016, the Centre had notified the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. Model rules were issued and guidelines were laid out, but the Karnataka Government is yet to frame rules and regulations for the state and start the implementation to make it accessible for People with disabilities (PWD). While India has a long way to go in fully catering to people with disabilities, there are many people who are taking initiatives to make society a more comprehensive space.
