Education of student’s is jeopardized, as students continue to study without classrooms.

Due to delay in the provision of flood relief funds for the renovation of school buildings in Athani Taluk, classes are being conducted in the open.
An instructor of the the Government Primary School Kategari said, “The government personnel had surveyed the school in mid-September and promised Rs. 1 lakh to fix the damages caused by flood. But no funds have been received yet.”
Block Educational Office (BEO), Of Athani Taluk said, “Schools devastated by floods are being mapped and the survey has not been completed yet. It will be completed by the earliest. BEO office can’t channelize funds but can appeal the government for allocating the same.”
Athani Taluk of Belagavi district was ravaged during the July 2019 floods, which affected the Northern Karnataka. Although a portion of funds have been released from Centre, rest of the amount is still delayed.
Block Resource Coordinator Mr. Khote said, “Many schools near the river have been affected by floods. Students are striving with catching up with the syllabus. Classes have to be conducted in the open.”
As per the Ministry of Human Resource Development guidelines appropriate measures needs to be taken for disaster management in all educational institutions.“National Policy on Disaster Management (NPDM), 2009 identifies school buildings as a national priority and enablesprovisions for designing the school buildings/hostels with earthquake resilient features and equip them with appropriate fire safety measures.”
