As the campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka ends today, voters of Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency demand resolution of civic issues like water crisis and narrow roads.
Chandan, a working professional from Rajajinagar said that whoever comes to power should find a solution to the ongoing water crisis in Bangalore.
Women from Rajajinagar say that the state government’s guarantee schemes might favour the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Nandini, a working professional, said that the Shakti scheme which provides free bus rides for women is a good initiative. She hoped that the ones who come to power would reduce the price of petrol and LPG cylinders.
Sitaraman, a middle-aged voter emphasized on the issue of unemployment. His son who graduated two years ago is still unemployed. “I think that the government should make more efforts to address the issue of unemployment,” he said.
Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, Mansoor Ali Khan, held a bike rally covering all wards of Chamarajpet. Sowmya, an INC worker said that they are all set for the polls. “The guarantee schemes by the government have received a positive response from the public, especially from women. We believe that this will reflect in the Lok Sabha election,” she said.
Muruga Swamy, a resident of Gandhinagar, who migrated from Tamil Nadu to Bangalore in the 1980s said, “Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has brought in Annamalai to campaign in Bangalore, but just importing politicians will not help. Although I think of him as a very dynamic leader, I feel that BJP should focus on local issues.”
Anil Kumar a resident of the area said, “The MPs who had won from the constituency have not done any development here. The roads are still narrow just as how they were ten years ago.”
The Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency, formed in 2009, by carving out portions of Bangalore North and South Lok Sabha constituencies has over 20 lakh voters. P C Mohan (BJP) and Mansoor Ali Khan (INC) are the key candidates in the Lok Sabha election.
