Will make India third largest economy if voted to power: Amit Shah

Elections Politics Top Story

Every year India has been saving Rs. 3.2 trillion under the Modi government, said BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.

Addressing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers’ convention at Palace Grounds, Bangalore, Union Home Minister and BJP leader, Amit Shah urged the BJP workers to start a door-to-door campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said that every worker of the party should go to people as Modi himself and tell the people the achievements of the central BJP government and the failures of the Congress.

He said that the people of Karnataka should vote for the BJP because the central government under Modi has provided funds worth more than Rs. 4,91,000 crore to the state which is three times the funds given to Karnataka under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.

Shah targeted the opposition and the state Congress government and said, “The people of this country and Karnataka have a choice to make. What will you choose, a government under the leadership of Narendra Modi who has not taken a day -off in the last 10 years; or the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) alliance where there is nothing more than nepotism to find?” He also accused the state Congress government of politicizing Bangalore’s water issues and said that the state government intentionally did not reach out to the centre for help in time.

Shah urged the BJP and JDS workers to work together on ground and make sure they win all 28 seats in the state. He said that the party workers and the voters of the state have to ensure that the Congress party is not able to open its account in the state.

Urging the voters of Karnataka, he said, “The opposition has not been able to accuse Modi of corruption of even 25 paisa in the last 10 years. Congress was involved in corruption of over Rs. 12 lakh crore under the rule of Manmohan Singh. While BJP, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, has brought over 25 crore people out of poverty and given various benefits to more than 100 crore people.” He said that India’s democracy is robust and thriving; those who are questioning it are the culprits involved in corruption of crores. Accusing the INDIA alliance of various scams, Shah said that those who are corrupt will be put behind bars.

In the presence of veteran BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) leaders like B S Yediyurappa, C N Manjunath, K Sudhakar, P C Mohan, Tejaswi Surya, Jagdish Shettar, Shobha Karandlaje and R Ashoka among others, Shah called for “Iss baar 400 paar” or “More than 400 seats this time.”

Shah thanked the voters of the state for their support in previous elections and said, “I thank the voters of Karnataka and especially Bangalore for their tremendous support to the BJP in the previous Lok Sabha elections. Karnataka gave 17 seats to BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha elections with 43 percent votes; while in 2019 you gave us 25 seats with 51 percent votes. However, this time, you have to break your record and make the BJP win all 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state.”

Shah said the BJP has fulfilled all promises that were in its manifesto; including building the Ram temple, abrogating Article 370 and implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA). Shah alleged the Congress of vote-bank politics and said that no one from the Congress attended the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, because of the fear of losing its vote-bank.

Under Modi’s rule, 37 new startups were registered in the country every day, 14 km rail lines were laid everyday and 50,000 women got LPG connections every day, Amit Shah said, recounting the achievements of the BJP government.

Tejasvi speaks about the Modi government

Under BJP’s governance, India’s economy has grown from weak to the strongest, BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya said, addressing the convention. India’s economy is among the top five and the fastest growing economy. India has been saving Rs. 3.2 trillion every year under the Modi government, he added.

He said that Bangalore is rapidly growing and several developments have been brought about owing to central government schemes. He mentioned that under the Jan Arogya Yojana,  around 1.5 lakh patients have been treated in Bangalore South. The central government sanctioned Rs. 1, 30,000 crore towards Bangalore’s development, he said.

Surya said the Congress Party had been involved in many scams during the time of the Manmohan Singh government. He gave examples of the Commonwealth Games scam in 2010 in Delhi and the 2G scam.  He also mentioned the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal during 2006 and 2007 to purchase helicopters for high-level politicians.

“You can see the shift from then to now. You could only see corruption and scam all over the newspapers then, but since the time of the Modi government, scams and corruption cases have disappeared,” he said. The Modi government has always been the top choice for the public, he added.

He also said that under the Congress government, Bangalore is gradually becoming an unsafe place while referring to the recent Rameshwaram Café blast.

He said that he is certain that Bangalore and the country’s population will ensure the victory of the Narendra Modi government in the upcoming LS polls.

B.S. Yediyurappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, also present at the convention, said he has always been in support of the workers of the BJP party and that he will be with them during the election campaign.
