CCB Narcotics Squad seized illegal marijuana worth Rs. 16.5 lakh and detained three illegal residents, said City Police Commissioner. In a recent series of operations, the City Crime Branch (CCB) Narcotics Squad in Bangalore made significant strides in combating illegal drug activities and addressing illegal residency concerns, said B. Dayananda, City Police Commissioner during a press conference today.
Three foreign nationals, alongside local drug peddlers, were intercepted by the CCB Narcotics Squad, resulting in the seizure of illegal marijuana valued at Rs. 16.5 lakh, he said. .
On March 26, 2024, a local drug peddler was arrested in the Mico Layout Police Station area, and 5.2 kg ganja, two mobile phones linked to criminal activities, and a two-wheeler was recovered from his possession, he said. This individual was allegedly engaged in procuring marijuana at discounted rates from local peddlers and selling them at inflated prices to known customers. A case has been filed against him at the Mico Layout Police Station, and investigation is going on, he said.
Subsequently, on March 27, 2024, another drug peddler from Kerala was arrested within the Varthur police jurisdiction, with 5 kg and 180 grams of ganja, an iPhone used in the illicit trade, and related equipment seized. The individual confessed to purchasing marijuana from a foreign contact via the Signal app and selling it at a premium to established clients, the commissioner said. A case has been registered against him at the Varthur police station.
The operations extended beyond drug-related offenses, targeting illegal foreign nationals residing without official documentation in Bagalur and Ramamurthynagar. Three such individuals were sent to detention centers, he added.
Furthermore, a recent special operation conducted on April 1, 2024, targeted illegal foreign residents across multiple areas, resulting in the interrogation of ten foreign nationals and one local person in various police stations. The operation led to seizure of 105 grams of cocaine, 110 grams of MDMA crystals, an electronic weighing machine, and a Honda Dio two-wheeler, he said. Legal actions, including filing complaints under the NDPS Act and initiating investigations, are underway to address these offenses and bring the perpetrators to justice, he added.
