Teachers from the Government Higher Primary School in Kengeri said they don’t let students play regularly as there is no compound wall.
Government Higher Primary School near Kengeri lacks compound walls. The teachers working in the school said that the compound wall was demolished for the metro construction. They added that complaints were made by the authorities of the school to rebuild the compound wall.
The compound wall of the school was demolished during the Purple Line metro construction and has not been rebuilt even after the completion of metro construction. Aysha, a teacher at this school said, “Because there is no compound wall, we don’t allow the students to play in the playground regularly as it is not safe.” She said that the school is located very close to the road and it is not safe for their students. She added that the school had complained to the education department
Srivas Rajagopalan, Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said that the metro construction is over now. He said, “There won’t be any further disturbances if the compound wall is built for the government school now.” He said that the education department has to take the necessary steps to rebuild the compound wall for the school.
Kumara Swamy. H.A, Cluster Resource Person (CRP) from the education department said that a plan for rebuilding the compound wall is underway. He said they have visited the school campus after the metro construction was over.
According to recent news reports, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued Rs. 850 crore for improving the infrastructure in government schools.
A spokesperson from the Akshara Foundation said that compound walls are important in schools. She said the government has to look into these kinds of problems and take necessary actions to rebuild the compound wall. The spokesperson said that it is safe for the children when they are playing in school playground that has a compound wall.
