Construction of the bridge started in September last year.
Construction of the Mosque Road Bridge above the railway lines in Pulakeshinagar will be ready in three months. As part of the construction, roads have been narrowed for the bridge.
S B L Reddy, contractor-in-charge of the railway project that costs Rs. 10 crore, said that the construction began in September 2022 as part of the railway project of increasing the number of lines. “We are working in full swing and the bridge will be constructed in next three months as this is a one-year contract with railways,” he said.
Suresh Patrick, who works at a bike accessories shop on Mosque Road, said that his business has been affected because customers are not able to visit his shop due to the narrow road. He added that trees have been cut down for the construction and the dust coming out from the area is causing respiratory problems.
Mosque Road was earlier a one way road, but now the bridge will connect Banaswadi to the right and Shivaji Nagar to the left .
Pasha, a resident of Pulakeshinagar, said that the construction workis are happening in full swing now and it will be very helpful.
Reddy said that the results of the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Karnataka cannot decide the future of the project as it is a railway-funded project.
Politics in Pulakeshinagar
Pulakeshinagar assembly constituency has been in the news recently. R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, the sitting Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) who won the 2018 assembly elections with a margin of 77.18 votes was denied a ticket by the Congress. But as per a report, the 2020 East Bengaluru riots made him “unpopular” among Muslims and hence he will contest from Pulakeshinagar with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket this time.
R Muniyappa, BSP state general secretary and spokesperson said that Srinivas Murthy is a victim of false propaganda spread in 2020 riot. “We expect that he will win with a substantial majority this time,” he said.
Pasha added that he believes that neither Congress nor Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will come into power and a new party might come into power. He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to split the votes in the constituency.
However, Imtiaz, a member of Congress Working Committee of Pulakeshinagar said that the constituency is a ‘Congress belt,’ that belongs to Congress and they are not worried about the votes after the defection of the sitting MLA Srinivas Murthy.
“We are confident that the Congress will win with the same majority like last time,” he added.
