Autonomous colleges, however, have started the process.

Colleges affiliated with Bangalore University are awaiting the official circular from the university to start admissions whereas autonomous colleges have already begun the admissions process after the result of Karnataka’s Second Pre University (PU) exams came out on Friday. The pass percentage this year stood 74 percent, 12 percent higher than the last year, according to TOI.

Bangalore University (BU) is yet to send an official circular regarding the admissions; colleges said it is expected to come in the next week.

“We have started giving forms and we are blocking the seats for students who are coming for admissions. But we are waiting for the official circular from BU which is expected in a week,” said Vanitha Anil kumar, principal of Sri Guru Sai College, Kengeri. She said that they are giving admissions in B.Com stream to students who have scored above 70 percent in the second PU exam. The percentage criteria were the same for last year as well.

Ramesh HG, Principal of Kengeri PU college said that the admissions in the college would start in May second week, after the elections.

“We have students coming from rural areas who are not privileged; therefore we don’t have a cut off. But a minimum of 50 percent is needed to seek admission here,” he added.

The same report said, “80 percent of freshers passed the exam, 48 percent repeaters and 43 percent of private candidates passed.”

An official from RV University that offers courses like film studies, political science and international studies in the arts stream said that the college had also started the process of admissions.

“We are taking students above 80 percent for B.A and students with lesser percentage will have to give an entrance exam to seek admission,” she added. She said the college was offering 100 percent scholarship to six students with the highest percentage.

Akshita, a 19-year-old girl whose sister recently cleared the exam said that she was planning to join a college in Kengeri and she was hopeful she would get in one of the colleges since the cut off was not high.
