Many pregnant women who have applied for PMMVY scheme in Sirwar taluka, Raichur have not received a single installment under the scheme.

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana offers a cash incentive of Rs 5000 to pregnant women and lactating women ( PW & PL). The money is directly transferred into the bank/post office account of the women for the first living child of the family only if certain conditions related to maternal and health care are fulfilled.

Asma, a resident of Vijaya Colony in Sirwar said, “I had registered my pregnancy under the scheme and Isubmitted all the required documents but I did not receive a single instalment.

Now my baby has been delivered. It would have been helpful if would have gotten the cash incentive. I would have used it for the medicine which I had to take during my pregnancy.”

Rubia another resident in Sirwar said, “I have completed all the documentation which was required to avail the benefit of the scheme but the amount was not credited into my bank account. My sister also faced the same problem.”

Mr Madduguppa, an officer at the Women and child development center said, “We have received 4937 applications as of on now under the PMMVY. Every month we receive 20-30 complaints regarding funds not received by the beneficiary.”

He added, “We act as a bridge between the central government and the beneficiary. The funds are disbursed by the central government. One of the reasons, the beneficiary does not receive the cash is because their bank/post office account is not linked with Aadhar card.”

Mr. Om Prakash, chief of the Gram Panchayat said, “We have informed the concerned department regarding the issue. The Women and Child Development department is supposed to take care and report the issue to the higher authorities.”

The district level centre for women has allocated Rs 500 crore out of the total budget for the year 2018-19.

Dr  Sunil head of Primary Health  Center in Sirwar said, “There are many pregnant women come for the Antal checks that are register under (PMMVY). And after the check up they have to submit the medical document for second installment.”
