The initial plan  was to build only an auditorium, but in 2013, additional facilities were added to the plan.

Bangalore, February 27, 2018: A 12-year-old plan  came into fruition  on Monday, with the inauguration of a first-ever indoor stadium in the Mahalaxmi layout area of the city.

The main focus when the project began in 2006 was to only build an auditorium for school events and local events like Bharatnatyam and Carnatic music concerts.

However, a decision was taken in 2013, to add extra provisions like badminton court and gymnasium as a result of which it became a multi-facility stadium.

The venue was inaugurated by the area’s MLA, K Gopalaiah. The total investment into making the venue  was Rs 14.27 crore,  Rs 7.5 crore more than the initial cost of Rs 6.77 crore, that was estimated in 2006.

The whole cost of this project was borne by the BBMP.

Devraj, The President of the Mahalaxmi educational  trust said that this facility was  built for the local society to use. He added  that the facility would free for the public to use, although   small fee may be charged  later.
