Bangalore, 10th October: Metro stations like Trinity, Lalbagh, Krishna Rajendra market, and Mahatma Gandhi Metro Station do not have water in their water coolers.  While at other stations, where the water coolers have water, the dispensers are unclean.
A circular published by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL)says that basic amenities like drinking water and toilets are to be provided in every metro station.
The infrastructure at the metro station does not go hand in hand with the circular published by the BMRCL. “The water cooler here is not working for past two weeks”, said Suchitra, a worker of Lalbagh Metro Station. She added that though complaints have been lodged to the control room, no measures have been taken.
On the other hand, Prasant, the head of the control room, said that the complaints have been lodged by the staff only three weeks ago, and the work will start next week. U A Vasant Rao,Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of BMRCL said that water coolers in the purple line have been set up. He added a few metro stations in the green line have got functional coolers while work is in progress at the other metro stations.
Rakesh, a regular commuter from Deepanjali Nagar to Peenya Industry, said that at Majestic, “The water cooler is only available in platform no. one and two i.e. in the purple line but there is no water cooler near platform no. three and four i.e. in the green line. I have to travel towards the green line to get water. This becomes a difficult during the office hours.”
Sushant, one of the regular commuters from Attiguppe to Majestic, said, “If at all we get water, the basin is not clean at all, and therefore getting water is difficult.” It is very difficult to locate the cooler, he added. U A Vasant Rao assured that the coolers will be set in easily accessible areas.
Irfan, an official at the ticket counter in KR Market, said, “The BMRCL is not taking proper care of the cooler. They had promised to fix the cooler before September but till no measures have been taken.”
Abhinav M.U, an urban planner, said, “It is not possible for the commuters to go out of the metro station and buy water.” He said that the BMRCL should ensure that all metro stations have clean drinking water.
