Food wastage continues in Bangalore after the Pandemic but fails to reach those in need.
Food, enough for around 20 lakh people goes into the bin in Bangalore every Sunday . The amount of food lost or wasted costs 2.6 trillion USD annually and is enough to feed all 815 million hungry people in the world. Sachin Vijay,owner of Donne Biryani Palace said it is challenging to stop food wastage and distribute it to needy people. Venkataraman Iyer, founder of Swabhiman Charitable Trust used to collect food from corporates and distribute it to the needy before the pandemic, but this stopped after the pandemic as corporate canteens are now closed. Prof MG Chandrakanth (Agricultural Economics) said food wastage can be stopped and harmful.
