Pulikeshi Nagar: multiple votes and outdated voter IDs

Despite irregularities, public satisfaction with the electoral system remains high. 

Anti-Corruption Foundation of India, stopped a voter’s attempt to cast multiple votes in Pulikeshi Nagar, North Bangalore constituency.

Zakarias.L., an Anti-Corruption Officer, expressed concern and emphasized the need for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences.

Zakarias, said, “It has come to my attention that irregularities occurred during the voting process in Pulikeshi Nagar, North Bangalore. Specifically, we have identified instances of individuals voting more than once, which is a clear violation of electoral regulations. In response to these findings, we are committed to implementing stricter regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.”

In  the constituency, 10 percent of registered voters faced challenges due to outdated voter IDs, resulting in their exclusion from the electoral list,  said a booth volunteer.

 He said, “The voting turnout in our precinct stands at 22 percent. Approximately, 10 percent of the registered voters encountered difficulties due to outdated voter IDs, resulting in the deletion of their names from the electoral list. We provided guidance and assistance to affected individuals on the necessary steps to rectify this issue.”

Despite this, four Lok Sabha seats in Bengaluru, particularly North Bangalore, anticipate a significant voter turnout post 3 p.m, after the peak heat hours, said Vijay, the Presiding Officer.

 Also, public satisfaction with the electoral system remains high.

Radhakrishna, a voter said, “I shifted to Bangalore in 1988 and I have seen the voting system evolve for good as compared to previous years and I like the current voting system because it is transparent.”

He added, “My suggestion for the younger generation is to not leave the opportunity to vote. It’s a privilege.”

Ensuring smooth operations, Nawaz Pasha, responsible for election duty maintenance, reported a steady flow of voters since morning without any disruptions. He said, “Since morning 500 plus people voted; the voting process is going smooth  without any pressure.”
