Several restaurants in the city are offering discounts for citizens who do their duty.
Restaurants in Bangalore will provide free or discounted food this election season.. Thriveni, Manager at the Bruhath Bangalore Hotels Association said that to increase the number voters in the state, hotels under the association will be providing complementary or discounted food to the voters.
She said, “The voters have to show their inked finger to get the discount.” She said that the hoteliers will display boards regarding the discount and food being provided in their restaurants.
“Nisarga Grand Hotel in Nrupatunga Road, Kamat Hosaruchi, and other hotels under the association will also provide discounted or free food,” the manager said. She added that they will follow conditions given in High Court’s interim order in providing the complementary food.
According to news reports, the High Court of Karnataka passed an interim order after hearing the petition filed by Bruhath Bangalore Hotels Association to provide complementary food to the voters on certain conditions. The court ordered that the hoteliers should not receive any contribution from the political parties. The petitioners also should not violate the model code of conduct.
Krishnaraj, owner of Nisarga Grand Hotel said that during the 2023 Assembly elections they gave complementary food to around 5000 people. This year they are expecting more crowd. He said, “The voters can show their inked finger and get one butter dosa, laddu and watermelon juice for free.”
Deck of Brews and SOCIAL pubs are also providing a complementary mug of beer and discounts to the voters who show their inked finger on April 27 and April 28.
Manisha, a resident from K R Puram said that this is a good initiative to encourage the voters. She said, “Some residents in my area are very hesitant to vote because of the increasing temperature.” She said that offering complementary food to the voters might encourage voters.
Kathyayini Chamaraj, Karnataka State Representative of National Election Watch initiated by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said that it is good gesture from the association to provide complementary food to the voters. She said that this will encourage the voters to vote and also increase the popularity of restaurants.
