“Congress government responsible for state’s woes”: CT Ravi

Karnataka Politics

The BJP leader targeted the state government for exacerbating people’s problems. He asked if the Congress really cares for the people of Karnataka, why is it in alliance with DMK at national level which is opposing the Mekedatu Project ?

Former National General  Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), CT Ravi alleged that Karnataka is suffering under the Congress regime. So much so that there is no water even to play Holi.

At a press conference held at the BJP’s Media Center, he said, “People are suffering due to  water unavailability, farmers are committing suicide but the Congress government is only busy in politicizing the matter. Congress leaders are only spreading enmity. Their leader, Rahul Gandhi, goes abroad and makes statements that hurt India and Indians.”

Ravi said that the Congress hates PM Modi so much that they undermine the nation’s interests in their statements, just to target the Prime Minister. While claiming that BJP is going to win the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he said, “From Congress to Stalin, everyone is helpless and this helplessness is shown in their statements. They know that Modi will become the Prime Minister for the third time.”

Questioning the Congress party’s preparedness for the upcoming general elections, Ravi said, “They have nothing. They have no neta (leader), no policy…they have no clarity in their party. Congress’ think tank member, Mani Shankar Aiyar has been insulting the PM by calling him ‘chaiwala’. He said that Modi is fit for selling chai but the people of the country have shown them their truth. The people of Gujarat gave a befitting answer to the Congress by bringing Modi to power in the state.”

He said that Congress leaders are insulting the people of the country by insulting Modi. “Mallikarjun Kharge compared Modi with a venomous snake. People will doubt the state’s culture when they hear Kharge,” he added.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress Party’s agenda has only two things – enmity and lies. He said that the Congress has no mission and stands no chance to win against BJP. “PM Modi works 18 hours per day for his vision of making India great and bringing about Amrit Kaal, but the congress only has one mission which is ‘commission’.  It has been 10 months since the Congress government came to power but they have done nothing for the state.”

Claiming that the BJP central government has released more funds for Karnataka between 2014-2024, Ravi said, “Leaders cannot lie in the parliament, Niramala Sitharaman gave a clarification and provided exact numbers which show that the state government has received Rs. 2, 82, 791 lakh crores under tax devolution between 2014- 2023. While before 2014, only Rs. 81, 795 crores were given to the state in ten years. There is an increase of over 245 percent. Not just that, grants-in-aid to the state have also increased multifold under Modi’s leadership.”

Reacting to Ravi’s statements against the Congress leadership and its policies, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, S Manohar said, “It is Modi who is using the tactics of enmity and lies, it is not the Congress. Why would Sithraman have said that free-money cannot be given to states if Modi was willing to give money to states?”

S Manohar said that Congress is confident of its win and is going to win one seat more than the BJP. He claimed that the Congress will win 221 seats.

CT Ravi: violation of MCC case

CT Ravi has lately been in news for his controversial remarks promoting enmity between religious groups. Ravi posted a controversial tweet on X (formerly Twitter) saying that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has declared a war on Hindus and Hindus must unite against those who are out to destroy Sanatana Dharma.

Following an FIR by the Congress Party, the State Election Commission took to X, saying, “We have taken cognizance of this (the Tweet by Ravi) post and action is initiated as per the prescribed guideline.”

Moreover, an FIR has been filed against the leader under the Representation of People Act and the Indian Penal Code for violation of Model Code of Conduct and promoting enmity between different groups.

Reacting to the FIR, Ravi said “I have received the details of the FIR filed against me by CONgress. As a Sanatani, I responded to the irresponsible and insensitive comments made by CONgress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul’s statement

Former Congress president, Rahul Gandhi had made a statement on “Shakti” while addressing a public rally in Mumbai on Feb 17. He said, “There is a word ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against a Shakti. The question is what is Shakti? The soul of the king is in the EVM.”

The BJP has been targeting Rahul for insulting Hinduism in his statements. Several BJP leaders have called out Rahul Gandhi for his ‘insulting’ remarks.

Model Code of Conduct

According to the Election Commission of India, once the Model Code of Conduct  is invoked after announcement of election dates, “no party or candidate shall include in any activity which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities, religious or linguistic. Criticism of other political parties, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programme, past record and work.”

The guidelines say that “Parties and Candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties.”

Depending on the seriousness of violation, a person who violates MCC can be disqualified from contesting elections under the Representation of People’s Act.
