Tata Hitachi—the construction company—emphasized the importance of sustainable environmental practices as a way of life.
The first ‘made in India’ electric excavator was launched by Tata Hitachi on Tuesday at EXCON, the 12th International Construction Equipment and Construction Technology Trade Fair held at Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIES). The construction company, as part of their obligation to environment, is focusing on ensuring that development and progress do not come in the way of sustainable future.
Sandeep Singh, the Managing Director (MD) of Tata Hitachi was enthusiastic to showcase the machines and said, “The first time any Indian company is developing electric mini excavators is Tata Hitachi.” The company launched four new machines prototypes including 45-50 ton excavator and a vehicle recycle machine.
He also emphasized the importance of sustainability and other environmental friendly practices. “Sustainability is very important for our livelihood and future generations. On one side, we are working on advanced technology. Second part is about how we are running our operations. Eighty percent of power utilization in our plant is from solar power.”
This is in terms of EXCON’s this year’s theme “Building a Better World.”
Mr. Singh mentioned the circular economy practice as well, such as extending the life by adding value and by refurbishing them. “The whole Tata Hitachi office is paper less. We are totally committed to it,” he said. He also said that the company pass on best practices to dealers and vendors with the intention that they’ll also implement the same.
Although, the machines that uses hydrogen fuel are still under trial run. Considering storage, safety and availability of hydrogen, the company is getting ready for adopting new technologies.
Dr. Lokeshwari M, Assistant Professor, from Department of Civil Engineering (Environmental engineering) said that it is very important to have sustainable practices, for our future generations to fulfill their needs, “Instead of depletable resources, we can go for renewable resources like wind and solar.”
She also emphasized the importance of recycling of metals.
Nibu P Thomas, Sales Manager of PSN Construction Equipment Private Limited, dealer of Tata Hitachi said that the launch event will continue for four days. “Construction companies, building companies, manufacturers, missionaries and mass excavation companies are mainly the buyers,” he said.
The machines are made in India with 99.5 per cent Indian workers. Mr. Singh said that they are adopting Japanese technology and localizing it, while making the products more affordable in the process, “The affordability of Indian customer is not as high as a developed country. But the requirement of infrastructure is to have very high quality machines. We adopt technologies from Japan and localize them here,” he said.
