The number of drivers caught without their licenses while driving has increased over the last few years.

On average, the number of drivers driving without a license in Jayanagar has gone up by 70 percent per month, upon comparing the rates with the 2017 monthly statistics.
The violators in 2016 were 3,264, in 2017 there where 1,453 people driving without a license, and in 2018 so far, the numbers are 1,439 – which is on the verge of crossing the last year’s entire figure, escalating at a very high rate.
The law for driving illegally without a license falls under Section 75, which states that ” No individual is allowed to drive any sort of vehicle if he/she doesn’t have an active, existing driver’s license, and is also not allowed to drive any kind of a vehicle, especially not public transport vehicles if he/she is not eligible because of their age, or their driving skills.”
The motor vehicular law says that the first offense fine is up to Rs. 5000 (and not less than Rs. 2000) or imprisonment up to 3 months, or both.
Subsequent offenses: fine up to Rs. 10000 (not less than Rs. 5000) or imprisonment up to one year, or both. Plus Rs 2000 and Rs.1000 per tonne of the extra load.
Harish VS, a real estate consultant who resides in Banashankari, uses the road to and from Jayanagar every day to commute to work. He says –“People driving without licenses happens everywhere, not only in Jayanagar. It is a place with a lot of crowd, lot of people parking their vehicles on the footpath, youngsters driving without licenses but definitely, there are traffic violations that take place, all the time, every single day.
