Long queues at National Apprentice Mela

Bangalore

The program will provide employment to thousands of young Indians.

Aspirants from various backgrounds are hopeful to secure jobs through the National Apprentice Mela at National Skill Training  Institute (NSTI), Yeshwanthpur. They were seen standing in a queue at different locations to get themselves registered, submit their resumes, and appear for an interview.

Swami Kumar who completed her diploma in electronics from Industrial Training Institute (ITI) said that she tried last year but wasn’t selected for any electrician positions. She came from Uttar Pradesh to Bangalore to study and geta job. “I’m hopeful that I will get a job this year. I’m applying for different organizations (DRDO, ISRO, HAL, BHEL). There are very few companies for electronics, and my chances of getting selected even decrease because I’m a girl,” she said.

Darshan N, a state representative for the Mela said that the hiring is done for an apprenticeship for four months.

Narayan, a student who gave the Pre-University exam last year said that this apprenticeship is an opportunity for him to get a job, and earn a living.

Supriya Singh an employee at NSTI said that the long queues are because there is no online application procedure to apply for companies.

“The applicants had to come here and register in the auditorium where they will be given a slip, then, they can go to their respective halls of the companies they are applying for. They have to submit their resume and then there will be an interview,” she added.

“The number of applications this year till now is less as compared to last year,” Singh added.

National Apprenticeship Mela 2022 wasorganized today at around 700 locations across the country. It’s organized by the Directorate General of Training in collaboration with Skill India.
