Officials from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) said they will run buses for women and the elderly on demand.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has arranged 2,200 additional buses for voters travelling from different cities to cast their votes in their constituencies, Dr. Latha T S, Public Relation Officer (PRO), KSRTC said.
She said the buses would serve all areas in Karnataka which would vote in Phase-II of Lok Sabha elections, 2024.
She added that they will provide special buses for women and elderly people if asked for. “There will be no change in bus fare prices,” she further said.
The second phase of elections will be held on April 26 in Karnataka and Kerala. To facilitate commute, the Kerala Road Transport Corporation and the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation have arranged bus services from different places in Karnataka to Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram.
According to news reports, the South Western Railway has announced that two special trains will operate to coastal areas on April 25.”
Prof. M N Sreehari, advisor to the Karnataka government for traffic, transport and infrastructure said, “Only BMTC has started special services for elderly people, women and polling officials but the KSRTC hasn’t.” He mentioned that police officers are stationed at every polling station to manage the boarding and alighting, in order to prevent overcrowding or accidents.
