The opposition members showed distress about the current government arresting everyone who speaks against them.
The Indian National Congress (INC) is planning to conduct more protests like the one that happened two days earlier, where Mohammed Haris Nalapad, Karnataka Youth Congress President and Ashik Gowda, State General Secretary, Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress protested with a ‘Chombu’ (a small, round water container) in their hands on the route where PM Narendra Modi’s convoy was scheduled.
They were detained by the police on the grounds of preventive detention near Mekhri Circle. They were released by the police yesterday.
Dr Vaneeta, vice spokesperson of Congress said, “We have many problems with the government. The main problem is that Karnataka does not get an equal share of taxes from the central government.”
She added,“They do not let us speak. If we speak, they arrest us. The opposition’s voice falls on deaf ears, and the Prime Minister (PM) refuses one-on-one dialogue or debate. How we are supposed to get the PM’s attention? What happened the day before yesterday was to grab his attention towards the real issues. We will stage more such protests if this is the only way to make him listen.”
Mr Manjunath, a member of the Youth Congress said, “Who knows the PM’s convoy will move on which road? Can we not even protest anymore? Our members were just doing a simple protest. But they arrested them.”
He further said, “ We did not even get drought relief. Tax devolution is a total sham. We have become like a real ‘Chombu’ with nothing in our hands. We have few more programmes planned this week to discuss tax issues.”
