At the Bangalore HR Summit 2023, industry experts shed light on the importance of an adaptive mindset and an empathetic workplace culture.
In the midst of an unpredictable and rapidly evolving world, the future of work for Human Resource (HR) leaders in India hinges on cultivating an agile mindset, fostering a positive company culture, and seamlessly blending human intelligence with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Tavamani Gracy from Kinara Capital, spoke about the importance of flexibility and hybrid work models during her address at the Bangalore HR Summit.
Creating an inclusive culture involves being empathetic towards those around you. Tavamani said, “Expressing gratitude and appreciation fosters a better organization. We have an agile system to cultivate a significant culture, and when we started crowd sourcing ideas, it made people feel a part of the change. This positive shift was evident in our stocks.”
The HR experts engaged in various sessions: Role of HR in Building Agile Organisations, The Digital Leap: Integrating AI Technologies for Advanced HR Practises, and Holistic Employee Happiness and Well-being.
Ms. Tavamani said, “We should assess employee performance more often than once a year. It’s crucial for everyone in the diverse workforce, spanning different generations, to cultivate an adaptive mindset.” She added, “Whether it’s insurance for those nearing retirement or saving options for compensation, the key is to embrace an agile mindset.”
In challenging business times with problems like inflation and slow growth, some companies cut costs by reducing their workforce. Tavamani Gracy and Varun Modgill, two of the key speakers, believe this is a mistake. They suggest companies should value their human capital, focusing on upskilling and reskilling their workforce so that they are well equipped to tackle various types of organizational challenges.
Augustus Azariah, Regional Director, Kyndryl, spoke about the importance of having an agile mindset in a multi generational workforce. He said, “Skills, as you know, get redundant very quickly. Our clients today are asking for certain things where half our workforce is not trained to deliver. This means I have to speed up training for the skills we need, especially since job roles are changing rapidly.”
He added, “With the help of AI, we launched a project in HR called Powering Human Progress. The goal was to enhance people’s abilities through a mix of learning and to streamline various systems like recognition, talent acquisition, restructuring, off boarding, on boarding, and more. We simplified the process for employees to switch to different roles, learn new skills rapidly, reducing job redundancy and boosting learning opportunities.”
Dr. Siraj, Founder Director, Institute of Human Resource Development said that they have been holding the HR summit every year since the year 2002 in Bangalore and Mumbai. The Bangalore HR Summit 2023- a two-day event at the Sterlings Mac Hotel brought together HR leaders, directors, CEOs and CTOs from various sectors to offer perspectives on the future and ever-evolving landscape of technology, human resources, and leadership in workplace.
