In a recent crackdown on the illicit sale of banned e-cigarettes, Kothanur Police Station executed a planned operation resulting in the arrest of five individuals.

Police raided two gift centers on Dec. 8, and caught four suspects involved in the unlawful trade. Cases have been registered under both, the Kotta and E-Cigarette Prohibition Acts.

The seized goods included e-cigarettes valued at Rs. 2,30,050. The police arrested another individual in a similar case on Dec. 10. This third suspect was identified as the supplier to the previous gift centers, and authorities seized e-cigarette products and foreign cigarettes totaling Rs. 23,67,400.

The combined operation saw a haul of approximately Rs. 26 lakh worth of illicit e-cigarette products and foreign cigarettes.

A similar case happened in July, when the Central Crime Branch (CCB) raided a shop on Church Street for selling banned e-cigarettes. The police arrested two people and seized e-cigarettes and their parts, worth Rs. 5 lakh. The accused faced charges under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), and a case was registered against them at Cubbon Park police station.
