Residents of Ragigudda area also complain about receiving water supply at odd hours.

Residents of Jayanagar feel nothing has been done to improve the constituency or relieve it of its age-old problems. From garbage being piled up to encroached footpaths along with people parking on roads, residents continue to face same old problems that have existed for years.

Keshav, secretary of Jayanagar Residents Welfare Association (JRWA) said that the shortage of pourakarmikas and cleaners is a big problem in Jayanagar. He said that is the reason that garbage has been piled up in many places in the vicinity. He said he has received a lot of complaints on a daily basis and has written many letters to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the authorities.

Krishna Kumar, a resident of Jayanagar said, “The same issues that have been troubling us from many years persist. The Jayanagar complex is still underdeveloped and there is no parking space for vehicles.”

He said the lack of parking spaces in Jayanagar 4th block is a big problem for residents and people who come here to shop because there is always a traffic jam.

Another resident of Jayaprakash Nagar (J.P Nagar) sees the parks being constantly re-developed as a problem. He said, “I do not know why parks that are already in a good condition are being built again and again. I do not see the need for a 11 meter long steel fence in the park.” He said instead of these unnecessary re-development works, a public library is the need of the hour as the nearest one is in Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madivala (BTM) Layout.

JRWA’s Keshav, explains the constant re-development of parks as a way of giving contracts to a parties’ allies during election. He said this helps them get more funds as there is a shortage of funds in the constituency.

Another problem that has been plaguing the residents of J.P Nagar is garbage being piled up in corners, inadequate sewage facilities and continuous commercialization of residential areas in Jayanagar

Kantamma, a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card holder, from Ragigudda area said, “There is only one public health center where the doctor comes only once a week.”

Many residents of Ragigudda also complained that they were given only four kilograms (kgs) of rice this month compared to the 10 kgs that they should be given. Some also complained of the irregular timings of water supply. They are receiving water supply that starts at around 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. and stops at 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m.

A resident said, “How can we fill water at these odd hours? We are tired of working the entire day. They should at least supply water till 9:00 a.m.” The water supply problem has been troubling the 2,000 people living in Ragigudda for a long time.

Keshav Kumar said the lack of funding due to different parties coming to power in the constituency and at the state government is the reason for irregular development in Jayanagar.

He said, “The present MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Sowmya Reddy claimed that she has received only Rs. 300 crores this year and that is why they are facing issues in solving the complaints they receive.”

In 2018, Sowmya Reddy of the Indian National Congress (INC) became the MLA after defeating B. N. Prahlad of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 2889 votes.
