National Conference on NEP reflects on institutes adapting the multi-disciplinary approach to education.
As the country plans to implement the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the major obstacle in its success is the collaboration of institutions, said experts at the national conference on NEP 2020.
Minister of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, Dr. Ashwath Narayan C.N said, “Multi-disciplinary education is important. Institutional collaboration to use resources is a must as some institutes in the country have a dedicated state government’s budget.”
He added , “The education sector’s perception is about being a profit-making business and commercialization rather it should be about bringing societal change and empowerment.”
Dr. G. Viswanathan, President Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) said, “Health and Education are the most important sectors of the country that define its growth and development. NEP has been pending for a lot of years but now that it has been discussed for implementation, I want to highlight that ‘collaboration’ is the key to its success.”
Vishwanathan added that government can support the education sector with policies but we also have to approach the industries.
Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said, “Around 3.8 crore students are studying in approximately 1000 universities and 57,000 colleges across the country. And there is an economic inequality and connectivity is also a major problem. But if institutions adapt to collaboration then education can be made accessible to everyone. It is the way forward.”
Explaining the reduction in the annual budget for education by six percent, he said that the detailed allocation of the budget, shows that there is an increase of Rs.7,000 crore as compared to last year in the section of national research as ‘research and funding’.
Dr. Bhavani, Principal of Surana College said, “With respect to NEP 2020, our college also believes in collaboration for which we are adapting to the multi-disciplinary mode of education at zero cost. We are introducing national emersion by tying up with colleges in India to properly utilize the resources and empower the students.”
Prof. V.B Nanda Gopal, Educationist and Consultant said, “Institutes adapting to the multi-disciplinary mode will provide students with a holistic environment where a studentacquires skills for sustaining a livelihood by also focusing on their individual passion. This is what NEP should be able to provide.”
Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) organized the National Conference on Implementation of NEP-2020 on the topic “Challenges and Opportunities for Educational Institutions”. Minister of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, Dr. Ashwath Narayan C.N was the chief guest and Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was the keynote speaker.
Along with the chief guest there were 13 speakers on the panel and 325 people attended the conference.
