KT Gatti, a social Kannada writer’s books are helping rural women’s to curb social evils

KT Gatti’s contribution lead to the first literary convention in Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada Sammelan, the second literary conference in  Kasargod district. Gatti’s birthday will be celebrated as he is turning 80, the inaugural ceremony would be held on  November 25  at 10 a.m. on Sunday,  the retired Justice of the Lokayukta will inaugurate the program.

Rohit Chandratirtha will be the main guest and other prominent people like Lakshmi Tholadi, DR. S. Sudheera Shetty, Smt. Usha Rai, Dr.Ajakkal Girish Bhat, Varadaraj Chandragiri, B.Ganapathi, Aravind Chodakki, Ganapathi Bhatta, Sri Raja Chendur are expected to attend.

KT Gatti also known as K T Kuddu, Timmappa Gatti is popularly known for being a great novelist, educationalist, poet, and autobiographer.

S Shetty, a local writer, said “ Gatti s books have inspired me to write my own books about teaching women . I conducted several workshops for women and children who can’t read and write to read them the stories and essays written by him. The women are so interested that they come after finishing their work. His contribution in Kannada literature is marvelous at the ground levels “.

Savithri, a rural woman from Belthangady taluk, said “ This is the first time I come to the city, I don’t know how to read and write but my son reads them out and I got counseling from his books. I started learning Kannada in initial stages and now I am a part of social helping groups in my village .”

His books advise people about how to incorporate modern thinking without forgetting traditional emotions. Such pieces of advice have been made through the literature on today’s education system, politics, and societal problems.

Usha Rai, an artist, and writer from Bangalore said: “ Gatti is my friend, we have been writing since several years and today his works have impacted many rural women who started their own social helping groups for counseling.”

Gatti has been honored with the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award, District level Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Kannada Rajotra Award , Niranana Award .
