Kolar minefield victim faces the horrible wrath of police.
The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) this morning organized a protest at the Town Hall against the bashing of a victim from scheduled caste by an officer at Betmangla, Kolar minefield. As per the president of DSS Dr. C.S Raghu, an inspector named Unne Gowda found the victim in a drunken state and decided to teach him a lesson. The officer first took him to the police and thrashed him. He further abused him and his community.
The protest was held in order to get justice for the victim as the officer is neither suspended nor terminated from his duty. Such an activity from a police official directly falls under the Scheduled caste and scheduled tribe (prevention of atrocities) act 1989. In an interview with the Softcopy newspaper, a member of DSS named Ashiq Ali Beg said “we want the government to hear our voice. They need to intervene in such matters and take adequate steps.
The people from scheduled caste and tribe have always faced problems over years. We want the government to terminate the officer and book him under the atrocity act.” The local police at the spot spoke to Softcopy newspaper and said: “The protest will surely result in the further investigation of the case and more insight shall be sought out.”
