Problem of parking in No Parking Zones reduce after effective towing of vehicles

Bangalore, April 13, 2018: The number of vehicles parked in No Parking Zones has significantly reduced in the past year, owing to effective measures taken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) restrictions.

As per Bangalore Traffic Police statistics, the number of vehicles in No Parking Zone reduced from 22,01,112 in 2016 to 21,36,473 in 2017.

The Inspector of Koramangala Traffic Police Station said, “We have towed a number of vehicles which has resulted in a dip in the number of vehicles being parked in No Parking Zones.”

Despite a considerable decrease in the number of illegal parking, the problem is yet to disappear completely.

In certain parts of the city, like Koramangala, one can still find vehicles parked in No Parking Zones.

Section 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act states that a fine of Rs 100 is to be charged for parking vehicles in No Parking Zones. Suvadeep Kundu said, “I know it is a residential area and I should not park there, but parking here is easy for me because I have to drive a lot to park in a parking area I have not yet been caught by the police or paid a fine.”

Sayan Sil, who works at a firm in Marathahalli said, “Once I had parked my Honda Brio on the main road of Marathalli though there was no sign board of No Parking yet my vehicle was towed. I had to pay a fine of Rs.2, 500. The BBMP should notify the places with No parking sign boards so that we get to know about it. There is no proper Parking Zone and we get confused where we should park the vehicle.”
