Inquiry on MLA Virupakshappa was conducted on Tuesday at the Lokayukta office.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Madal Virupakshappa has been given a five day judicial custody.

The verdict came on Tuesday at the Civil Court; BJP MLA was presented before the magistrate at Lokayukta. He was taken to the Lokayukta at 9.30 p.m. for inquiry, right after the arrest.

During the inquiry he was feeling unwell and was taken to Jayadeva hospital for an electrocardiograph (ECG) at 12 a.m. He was brought back to the Lokayukta office at 5 a.m.

Veeranna SG, of Janta Dal (JD) (Secular) said, “He is a corrupt MLA and his arrest was mandatory.”

Amidst the verdict of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, BJP leader N. R. Ramesh has filed several cases against allegedly corrupt MLA, officers at municipal and panchayat level offices of Bangalore.

After sharing the press note, N. R. Ramesh said that he has filed various complaints against several corrupt officers in municipal offices. He has successfully filed 13 FIRs against 13 Ministers, 21 MLAs and 114 higher officials. With more than 40 members in his network he has collected the documents and two Right to Information (RTI) applications. “I have received full support from the police officials and media persons coming forward and speaking against corruption,” he added.

Mohana Dasari, representative of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said, “BJP MLA should have been arrested long back. A proper investigation should be conducted by Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the houses and offices of all the ministers and MLAs of Karnataka for the 40 percent commission.

He further said, “Madal Virupakshappa should also be charged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as his son has been caught red handed in illegal transactions. The central agencies and state agencies have become puppets of the ruling parties. They should work irrespective of the ones who are in power. It is a fact that most of the offices in Karnataka are corrupted. Corruption in Karnataka is a well known practice and the rampant action of it is also a fact.”

A political science professor from a University in Maharashtra said, “It depends upon who is building the public opinion and how they are doing it. When it comes to the current ruling party its members are quite good at it. However, this would hardly have any change in the voting behavior of people in terms of voting or not voting. It depends upon how the public opinion will be built from here on.”

He added that political arrests like these hardly affect the parties that are in power. Unless there is a strong response from the opposition, incidents of a political leader getting arrested hardly affect the voting behavior.
