Prominent citizens urged the public to exercise their voting rights despite the weather conditions.
Karnataka registered a voter turnout of around 64.51 percent as the state went into its first phase of Lok Sabha elections. As 14 Lok Sabha constituencies out of the total 28 cast their votes today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Indian Men’s Cricket Team Head Coach Rahul Dravid, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, and actor Yash were among the big names that exercised their right.
Casting her vote at BES College, Jayanagar, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said “Everyone should come out of their homes to cast their votes. This election is definitely on the grounds that people want stable, good leadership to take over. It can’t be on the grounds that I don’t like somebody so I don’t want that somebody. Political parties will have to give good proposals,” the Hindustan Times reported.
Except at a few polling stations, the citizens said that the facilities prepared for the voters were up to the mark pointing out to the crowd management and availability of wheelchairs for elderly voters.
Karnataka will go to polls on May 7 for its second phase of elections.
