Metro services which were disrupted between Magadi Road and Challaghatta have been restored, officials say.
A man died by suicide by jumping in front of a train at the Attiguppe metro station today.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) posted on X (formerly Twitter) that one person jumped in front of a train at the Attiguppe station at 2:10 pm.
BMRCL posted on X that the person found dead was identified as a male aged 19, and the body was taken to a hospital for post-mortem by the police.
However, an officer from the Chandra Layout police station said that the body found was of a male aged 24. He said that the police is still investigating the details of the deceased.
Srivas Rajagopalan, Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) at BMRCL confirmed that the train services which were disrupted between Magadi Road and Challaghatta at around 2.:20 p.m were restored by 4 p.m, after clearance from police.
Chaos at Magadi Road
Metro passengers who were commuting on the purple line had to get down at Magadi Road at around 2:20 p.m. They were asked to vacate the train and exit the station citing technical glitch.
The passengers were confused and were worried about the ticket refund. This led to altercations at the station between the passengers and staff.
Pranav, a commuter, said, “The security personnel themselves seem unsure of what is happening. They said they did not know when the services would restart. They are asking us to exit the metro station and find transport on our own. What are we supposed to do?”
Long lines were observed at the customer care centre of Magadi Road metro station as commuters queued up to claim refunds for their tickets. The customer care staff was confused about how to issue refunds. Though they issued refunds for tokens, they were unsure of what to do with the QR tickets. They said that passengers with QR tickets might get a refund within 48 hours.
Divya, another commuter said, “My friend and I got a refund for our tokens. Now we have to take the Whitefield metro to Majestic, so that we can board a bus to Kengeri.”
Srivas assured that the commuters will get their money back.
Passengers who were stuck at the metro station resorted to buses, autos and booking cabs as a group to reach their destinations before usual services were restored.
