BMRCL to build more escalators on the metro stations to ease the crowd.
The daily metro commuters in Yeshwanthpur are demanding more escalators at the metro station.
Lalit Kumar, a daily commuter from Yeshwanthpur to Vidhan Soudha said, “I leave by 8:30 or 9 in the morning and the metro station is always crowded and it’s the same during the evening hours.”
Kalaswaminarayan D, Director General Manager of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) said, “We received the complaints from station authorities and we immediately started working, now we are also thinking of building acrylic safety sheet on the sides to avoid any accidents.”
The reason for overcrowding at the station is because people prefer taking the metro rather than any other public transport, he said.
Yashvanth Chavan, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of BMRCL said that they had been witnessing a rise in footfall, and had decided to build more escalators and lifts in the metro stations. “Till now we have constructed extra lifts and escalators in 29 stations but there definitely is the requirement for more,” he said.
Gayatri, a security guard working on the metro station said, “The work has been going on since f last month ontwo escalators. One has been built but is still not operational for the commuters.”
The customer care employee on the station said, “We always witness incidents, where people carrying heavy luggage most of the times tumble down.”
Mr. Vikram Bhatt anurban planer said that the infrastructure of the metro station depends on the proximity of the station to where it is located. If we look at the Yeshwanthpur metro station, then the station is opposite to the Yeshwanthpur railway station, so the authorities of the BMRCL need to analyze the ‘inflow’ and ‘outflow’of the commuters.
“Some better infrastructure suggestions can be introducing more escalators and lifts. A walk away or over-bridge between the railway station platform and metro station with proper security checking can also be constructed,” he said.
