The BBMP proposed a raise in the pension for senior citizens starting from 1st November, but 50 percent of them haven’t got it yet.

In the State budget of Karnataka for the financial year 2018-19, the government had promised to give a raise in the monthly pension of the senior citizens from Rs 600 to Rs 1000 with an effective date of Nov. 1.
Some have yet to see the raise in their pension.
Bomanna retired 10 years ago said, “I didn’t know that we would be getting a raise. It may be mentioned in the budget but, we were not informed.”
According to the budget, under the present Sandhya Suraksha Project, 32.92 lakh old persons who are age 65 will be getting the financial benefit.
The State Government of Karnataka has launched Sandhya Suraksha scheme to provide financial assistance for senior citizens of the state. The Sandhya Suraksha Pension Scheme provides eligible senior citizens with monthly pensions.
Sri N Rangaiah, deputy director of pension and asset liability at the BBMP said that “We have just started the process of a raise. The decided raise will be raised in stages in the coming five years.”
The BBMP has included Rs 660 crore as an additional amount in the budget this year, for this purpose. Another citizen of Bangalore, Ashwin, who is 70 years old, said that, “I have applied for the raise in my pension, but I haven’t got it yet. The government said that they are working on it.”
According to the data by the Pension Department, they have not yet been able to raise the pension amount for all the 32.92 lakh old citizens.
