The Congress leader’s planned road show from Jayanagar to HSR Layout was delayed indefinitely.
Posters flying. Party flags stomped on. Flexes torn apart. This scene unfolded as Congress workers and police shut the gates at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, HSR Layout, Bangalore, where Priyanka Gandhi was supposed to address the public at 6 p.m.
After waiting for more than an hour for her and other Congress leaders to arrive, the restless crowd wanted to leave. However, the police said that people were only allowed to enter the stadium and not leave. Agitated, people tore down flexes placed around the stadium to get out of the ground.
Sumayya, who came to attend the campaign, said that she was unable to buy water for her two-year-old daughter as she was not allowed to leave.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi was supposed to conduct a road show from Jayanagar to HSR Layout today at 6 p.m. However, the road show was cancelled, and instead it was announced that she would be addressing the crowd at 6 p.m. at HSR Layout.
Almost 12,000 people gathered in the stadium, with 15,000 police officers including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel being deployed for security, a police officer estimated.
Earlier today, Priyanka Gandhi addressed the public in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
At the time of publishing this, she had not yet arrived at the venue.
