More than 8 in 10 cases of gender disparity in poverty is from Sub-Saharan Africa (62.8 per cent) and Central Asia and Southern Asia (21.4 per cent). 938 million women and girls live on less than $3.20 a day and 1.7 billion on less than $5.50 a day. With the regions of Sub Saharan Africa, Northern Africa and Western Asia having their female poverty rates projected to increase. And the regions of Central, Eastern and Southern Asia projected to decrease.
