Foreign students cannot apply online

International students of Bangalore university main campus have to go contact officials on email and phone and then submit documents physically.

Foreign students applying to Bangalore University’s main campus cannot apply directly online. They have to go through a complicated process before submitting their documents.

Students say that if they want admission in the university, they have to first contact the assistant registrar. He provides the number of head of the international students’ cell, who guides them further.

Navit, a Nepalese student of Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) in Bangalore University said he could not get admitted in the main campus through online mode. He explained, “I e-mailed the assistant registrar and he gave me the number of the head of international students’ department. Later, I submitted my documents by physically visiting the department.”

Mr. Siddarth Wadiyar at the international students’ department said, “Due to university policy we don’t provide direct contact details to the students. They first have to email the assistant registrar, and then they get either the email or number of the head of department. After that he further guides them in the admission process.”

The international students section for queries on the official website also is not functioning. The page solely dedicated to international students is also not working. The email provided by the international students’ cell is showing error while ending email.

The university still relies on paper-based transactions, with very less work online. For any query or small documentation after enrollment students have to visit the university physically. Hazibullah, who comes from Afghanistan said that there is too much paperwork regarding every small issue in the university. We have to frequently visit the campus for many small things in person. However, all work for the ICCR scholarship is done online.

Dr. Hanumanthapa M, the head of International Students department said “According to university rules they have to go through the process, after that they get my direct number, and I further guide them. After admission they can directly contact me for any other problem they may face.”

University students converse outside the main campus.

Mohammad Akthar, a student of MCA in the university who comes from Afghanistan said “He usually contacts Mr Wadiyar by meeting him directly. Mr Hanumanthapa is generally not available.”

Bangalore University being a government run university helps the students in getting easy approvals from foreign governments. Therefore, they still enroll in the university despite the hassle.

Akthar said “We have an exam in Afghanistan and  whoever is chosen gets to go abroad, and we usually choose India because it’s easier to get jobs in American companies if we get Indian degrees. I choose Bangalore University because it’s easier to get clearance for a government university.” He also added if he had chosen only based on quality of education, then private universities provide better technical education.
