NHAI is most likely to ban two-wheelers for safety reasons on Mysore Bengaluru Expressway.
The authorities in charge of the expressway said that the ban on two-wheelers may take effect after elections, which are scheduled to start from May 10, 2023. Satyanarayan, shift in charge of Skylark, the company that collects the toll, said, “The ban on two-wheelers is most likely to be implemented two months after elections..”
An NHAI official from the regional office said, “The department is still discussing the proposal of the two-wheeler ban from the expressway. t After the ban, those vehicles can use the service road.”
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced its prospective plan to ban two-wheelers from the main carriageway of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway on April 26, 2023. This move was to ensure the safety of road users and to avoid accidents.
Ram, a carpenter who travels through the Mysore expressway often for his work said, “Although the safety is an issue, it would be easy for the commuters to take the direct expressway rather than taking the service road. It is good that authorities are taking this decision.” He added that taking the expressway would save him time and that he could go to and from work faster.
Mannu, the toll plaza in charge said, “Two-wheelers often ride at high speeds like 120km/h due to smooth and wide roads but if a car happens to break down in front of a speeding two-wheeler, then the biker might lose control and cause an accident.”
Lokesh, Panchayat Development Office (PDO) on check post-election duty said, “There are many accidents happening due to overspeeding vehicles since the expressway opened.” He added, “Two-wheelers are not allowed on the expressway as notified by NHAI before the expressway was inaugurated.”
Rajshekar, an engineer on election duty said, “It is mostly because of the safety issue, to ensure safety and avoid accidents on the expressway.”
