Three year old Harshaali, daughter of a Cubbon Park Police constable named Lokeshappa died after accidently falling and getting burned in her resident quarter i.e Shivajinagar Police quarter on March 5, 2019.
Residents living in the same quarter spoke about how active and loving Harshaali was. They complained about the terrible maintenance in the quarter.
A.N Jyothilakshmi, the quarter in-charge mentioned, “Shivajinagar Police quarter is extremely old. It was decided that this old residential area was to be demolished and the people living here were to be shifted to different quarters in different locations. Yet, the issue has not been resolved and people are still living here.”
She also added,” We do not have guards to patrol the quarter as it is police and public servants only who live here, therefore, what is the need to have guards around a police quarter?”
When asked about the lack of maintenance and cleanliness in the place, the quarter in-charge said, “ We have assigned a garbage man who comes around 4:30 a.m. everyday to pick up the garbage and put it out of the quarter campus so that it can later be taken away by the Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike. “
The death of this child has been termed a natural death, as she died accidently, playing around the quarter campus where the spring leaves were spread around, collected and put in a particular space, was put on fire – which sadly ledt to her death..
Somnath J Lamani who is a head police constable and lives in the same quarter mentioned,”There is no maintenance at all here. One part of this quarter is already demolished. We cannot stop our children from going outdoors to play. Sadly, we are not living in safe and clean environment. Such a sad incident of a three year old dying for such lack of maintenance is hard to fathom.”
