Punjab extends lockdown for 13 days

City Covid-19 Pandemic

New regulatory measures regarding the lockdown are yet to be announced.

Ludhiana: In view of the declining number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh announced a relaxed extension of the state-wide lockdown till June 10, 2021.

For the extended lockdown, CM said that the limit of passengers in personal cars and two wheelers will be removed. However, the restrictions on commercial passenger vehicles and taxis will continue as they are at present.

Rohini Sharma, a city resident said, “Thankfully, the restriction of two people in a car has been removed. I don’t understand why people from the same bio-bubble are restricted from travelling together in a car. I mean they stay together in the same house..”

The count of cases in the city has come down from 8,625 as recorded on May 10, 2021 to 4,124 on May 27, 2021. However, the count of deaths on May 27, 2021 stood at 186.

Dr. L.C. Madaan, a general physician feels that the decision to extend lockdown in the state is a wise step. “Health is much more important than business or anything else. Although the cases have started showing a downward trend, if precautions are not taken, they might increase again. Its better to be safe than sorry,” he said.

Note: Updates on new regulatory measures for the city from the Deputy Commissioner are yet to be announced.
