Bengaluru, Oct. 23, 2018

After the ban on advertising flexes implemented by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangar Palike (BBMP) in the city of Bengaluru, leading to revenue loss. According to ban by the BBMP no one can put any kind of banners in any place or property except in bus stops or buildings.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) takes advertisement on its buses, but it is not affected by the ban, as the BMTC has a different process for this.

According to an official of BMTC, ‘’there are 6,200 buses under BMTC in operation.’’ ‘From many years BMTC is giving tender to, two of the private companies for the advertisement and takes revenue from them directly’.”

‘’Rate differs according to the size of the advertisements on the buses like Volvo buses cost more as compared to normal buses like, Suvarna. Rates start from 3,600 to 4,200 and the maximum price is 5,000per month’’ he added.’

Traffic department of BMTC told the Softcopy  that in total there are 47 bus depots of BMTC around the city and some others are owned by the BBMP.  BMTC has to pay rent annually for those depots which are under BBMP.

‘’Bus depots were having advertisement but after the BBMP had implemented ban on flexes we are facing revenue loss. Initially, BBMP was getting more than 5 crore revenue from bus depots itself and BMTC was getting 4.2 crore of revenue,’’ traffic department official told. “It is a matter of   pollution because the banners are made of plastics and   the BBMP is concerned and more focused upon these things which made them to ban the hoardings.”

Owner of one printing press near Seshadripuram police station said that, ‘’ My business of printing flexes and banners has come down by 30 to 40 percent, as compared to earlier time. We are getting less order for banners and we don’t have any other alternative other than continuing the business. I took 6 lakh as loan for the equipments but now, I am facing problem and have to clear the loan.’’ A union of 600 shopkeepers is in legal process regarding this.
