Police says it has credible information against the former minister for hoarding ration kits to be distributed among voters.

Police will soon charge Krishnaiah Shetty, former minister and aspirant for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Gandhinagar constituency after it seized ration kits from his house that were to be distributed among voters.

Chandrashekar, Inspector, Malleswaram Police station said that the police has credible information against him. He said that they will issue a notice and take him into police custody. “The seized ration kits included grocery items like rice, dal, oil, dry fruits and more. They were worth Rs. eight to Rs. ten lakhs,” said the inspector.

The ration kits seized will be sent to Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (KFCSC), who will take necessary action.

A first information report (FIR) was filed against Shetty based on a complaint by a flying squad. The complaint was filed by the squad official Lakshmanappa CV. The state is seeing the enforcement of a model code of conduct due to the upcoming May 10 assembly elections. Reports show Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also had his car inspected by the Flying Squad team of the Election Commission on Mar. 31.

MG Mahesh , a BJP spokesperson said, “The case against him is an old one that will take its own course. It has nothing to do with the party. We will abide by the law and no ticket will be provided to a criminal.”

He said it is an individual case against him and the party will take disciplinary action if he is proven guilty.

Mohan Dasari, an AAP spokesperson said, “It is a shame that such things take place in the election process. They are trying to buy votes. However, this is not a long-term solution.”

He added that they do not care about the people. Most of the parties are like this and it will end only if Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is voted to power.
