Moving at a snail’s pace: Flyover construction at Hosakerehalli Cross is obstructing traffic flow.

Banashankari, September 8:Flyover construction by BBMP at Hosakerehalli Cross is causing slow traffic and keeping travelers stranded for long hours. The construction will take another 16 months to complete.

Harsha (23) who lives in Nagarbhavi says, “Slow traffic often delays my schedule by half an hour while travelling to office in Banashankari. During the evening peak hours from 6-8 p.m. the congestion magnifies.” Scnchna, a class nine student from JHS School said she has to start 20 minutes early at 7:45 a.m. because of construction. It takes an hour to reach from Lalbagh to Banashankari.

The situation worsens during rains as a result of poorly maintained roads and traffic signals. S.Girish, DCP, Traffic, West says, “The roads are poorly maintained and have potholes leading to traffic congestion.” Traffic signals have to be shut down due to flyover construction says Bharat, Structure Engineer, MVR Infrastructure. This causes significant delays in their routines.

Kiran S. Neelagar, Police Inspector at Banshankari Traffic Police Station said that, “The problem of slow traffic movement can be solved only after the flyover construction work completes. Mr. Lokesh, Executive Engineer of the project said the contract for flyover construction is scheduled from June 2016 and will be completed by December 2017.

V. Mariyappa, ACP, Traffic South sub-division stated that, “The Outer ring road plays a major role as all types of vehicles are involved for commuting from Mysore road. Traffic halts maximum during peak hours from 7:00-11:00 in the morning and 4:00 to 11:00 in the evening. It is because of ongoing flyover construction at Hosakerehalli Cross.”

M.N. Sreehari, Traffic expert and an advisor to Karnataka State Government on traffic issues said, “Traffic signals play an important role in traffic to flow. Signals which are closed due to construction should be taken care of. People should also plan early so they don’t face delays in their routines.”
