Despite holding the position for three terms, the Congress MLA of Bangalore’s Vijayanagar constituency is yet to resolve persistent issues like traffic, parking, and water quality.

The Vijayanagar Assembly constituency located in the western part of Bengaluru has been the stronghold of the Congress who has held it for the last three terms. Despite this, the constituency is still grappling with persistent issues that are yet to be resolved.

Shree Hari, transport engineer and resident of the area said, “The development of the area after the construction of the metro train has led to a rise in parking problems. The limited parking spaces within the metro campus have forced people to park their vehicles on the main road, resulting in significant traffic issues for the locals.”

He added that there is a significant traffic jam during peak hours every day, and no traffic police have been deployed to manage the situation. The entire Vijayanagar area has narrow grass roads, except for the main metro road which experiences heavy traffic on a daily basis. This inconvenience affects the residents of the area, making traffic management a major issue in the locality.

In addition to the parking and traffic issues, the quality of the borewell water is also a major concern in the area, said the residents of this constituency.

Suresh HT, a local resident concerned about the poor quality of the borewell water in the area said, “The bore well water is often contaminated, and even the quality of the Cauvery water is not up to the mark.”

Suresh added that numerous people have lodged complaints regarding this issue with the local MLA Mr. M. Krishnappa, but no action has been taken for years.

Hari added that he has raised concerns and complaints to the local MLA multiple times about traffic, inadequate parking space, and poor water quality, “but unfortunately, no one seems to be interested in addressing these problems.”

He added that politicians only show up in the area before elections to seek votes but fail to deliver on their promises once they are elected.

Shrinivas Reddy, an official from the MLA’s office, acknowledged that the issues in the area have been persistent for a long time. However, he said that they are making efforts to address the problems and have included them in their manifesto. They have plans to improve the constituency with the cooperation of the people.

The current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vijayanagar constituency in Bangalore is M Krishnappa from the Congress party, who has been elected to the position for three consecutive terms in 2008, 2013, and 2018. In the previous assembly elections, M Krishnappa received a majority of 73,353 votes, while H Ravindra from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Paramashiva from Janta Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) received 70,578 and 8,174 votes, respectively; with a total of 210,400 eligible voters.

According to Police Inspector D. Santosh Kumar from the Vijayanagar police station, the traffic issues in the area have led to a high number of non-fatal accidents.
