Former prime minister and chief minister of Karnataka, H.D. Devegowda did a ‘Panchratna Yatra’ around the Yelahanka constituency.

Janata Dal (Secular) doyen H D Devegowda made an emotional appeal to the voters in Yelahanka while his party promised five key developments to the constituency. The promises revolved around pension to farmers and their families, digital literacy and education, good hospitals and an increase in the health budget.

Stopping at key places in the constituency—Chikkagollara Hatti, Machohalli colony, Bayandalli, Kittanahalli, Chikkabettahalli, Mother Dairy and Chikkabommasandra—the Pancharatna Yatraended near Kempegowda statue at Sante circle.–

Devegowda said, “I am almost 90 years old and I hereby stand and make an emotional appeal in front of you to cast your vote for JD(S). I assure you that there will be a different image of Yelahanka constituency if our MLA comes to power. I’m going to visit five essential areas of this constituency today, promising every resident that there will be no issues to them if they cast their decision towards JD(S).”

From increasing the pension of widows to improving water supply, Yelahanka will have a separate Rs. 100 crore budget for its development, said the JD(S) candidate M. Munegowda.

“I don’t care who’s coming from where to campaign for BJP or congress, we work for constituencies that’s why we don’t need to make our campaign fancy or star studded. I am dedicated towards this constituency and I’m sure of winning this seat,” he added.

He added that there are many problems in this constituency especially that of infrastructure along with depleting water supply. “I assure that I’ll get an immediate release of Rs. 100 crore and I’ll dedicate it to every possible development of Yelahanka.”

Chaitra, a resident of Machohalli Colony, joined the JD(S) rally today. She said, “I will vote for JD(S) this time unlike last time I voted for BJP. There are poor roads and a bad water supply, now that Devegowda is promising and campaigning today, I’m sure that the candidate will surely look at the development and that’s why I’m extending my support to JD(S) this time.”

Devegowda further added that JD(S) has a separate manifesto for Yelahanka constituency and is an essential seat for them to win. “Our manifesto will focus on what people of Yelahanka want, I’m sure that I have your support and you can blindly vote for Munegowda as he is the best option for you,” said Devegowda.

Since last three assembly elections Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate, S.R Viswanath has been winning this seat, with JD(S) candidates being the runners up. Munegowda is contesting from this seat for the first time.

The Karnataka Assembly Election will take place on May 10, with the results to be released on May 13.
