Basic amenities go MIA in Govindraj Nagar

Elections

Complaints by residents of Govindraj Nagar Constituency are not taken seriously.

Lack of basic amenities trouble the residents of Govindraj Nagar. Access to footpath, roads, drainage system and a lack of parking space are the major problems in the area.

Keeriti, a 23-year-old daughter of a general store owner said, “Drainage system is pathetic. It is clogged most of the time and during rainy season the roads flood with clogged sewage water.” She said cement, pebbles and other construction items lying next to our shop from five to six months and have not been cleared despite complaints to the police.

Receptionist of a restaurant on the 5th main road in Govindraj Nagar said, “I think all these problems of footpath, road encroachment and drainage have been there since five to six years. As no action is taken by the government or the police we have stopped complaining.” She added that the restaurant pays for cleaning and maintenance of the area in front of restaurant.

In the upcoming elections Umesh Shetty has been given the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) ticket instead of the current BJP MLA V Somanna from Govindraj Nagar.

However, due to the persistent problems the residents of Govindraj Nagar Constituency are reconsidering their decision of whom to vote.

“We are constantly facing problems due to cement and other construction items that are lying on the road and footpath near our garage. I have not yet decided who will cast my vote for, but I think it will be Congress.” said a worker at S.R. Motors, a garage shop.

From Govindraj Nagar Constituency, Umesh Shetty, BJP candidate will be contesting against R. Praskash from Janta Dal (Secular) (JDS), Anjana Gowda from Aam Admi Party (AAP), and Priyakrishnna from Indian National Congress (INC).
