Passengers are thrilled to see a 30 to 40 percent drop in travelling costs after the construction of the metro line from K R Puram to Whitefield.

Auto drivers are complaining that the metro line from K R Puram to Whitefield is depriving them of their livelihood.

Devaraju P, an auto driver said, “Earlier I would charge Rs. 350 to Rs. 400 for a ride from Baiyyappanahalli to Whitefield, but now, people take the auto to the new K R Puram metro station which is only Rs. 120 to Rs. 170. This new construction has affected my  income.”

According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), they have fixed the auto fare from K R Puram to Whitefield at Rs 35.

Ankita, a commuter from Baiyyappanahalli to Whitefield, said, “My travel cost has reduced by 30 to40 percent. And now I am able to save more than before.” She added that before the metro from K R Puram started, she used to take an auto directly to work when she was running late and it made a hole in her pocket.

Anusha T C, architect and an urban designer, assistant professor atSJB School of Architecture and Planning (SJBSAP) said, “Autos have the liberty of shifting their routes. The infrastructure development is providing the state with employment opportunities, which is more important.” She added that the advantages that metro riders got because of this new line are comparatively more than the negative impact the auto riders have. So the state is left with no option but to go ahead with this construction.
