Congress stands strong in Chamrajpet Constituency

Drainage, infrastructure and damaged roads still a problem in certain areas of Chamrajpet, say residents.

Communal tension in the Chamrajpet constituency has been a problem for years along with other problems related to road, infrastructure, and drainage.  Not much has changed in Chamrajpet under the tenure of the present Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)  Zameer Ahmed Khan of Congress Party, said the residents. .  They said, there is a high possibility of Zameer winning the constituency  even in the upcoming assembly  elections of Karnataka as he has served as the MLA four times and gained the loyalty of people.

Nagaraj, 73, owns a shop in Chamrajpet 4th cross said that the Idgah Maidan is one such breeding ground for clash between Hindus and Muslims. “The MLA  supports muslim community more. . This was the first time that the Indian flag was hoisted in the maidan during republic day after there was a public demand for it,” he said.

He added that apart from this, there are other problems like the underdeveloped roads, potholes and  poor drainage in Chamrajpet. “For 50 years they have not changed the pipeline, it is the same  since ages.” He also said that the MLA had been raided by the ED at his home in Palace Road.

Another resident said that the MLA has worked but only for the betterment of the Muslim community and did not do  much for others.

However, Sayed Shabbir, a resident of Goripalya in Chamrajpet,  a pan shop owner, said that the present MLA has helped the people t irrespective of religion, he distributed ration to people during COVID-19.There was no hospital in Goripalya before but Zameer had built a government hospitalin the constituency. He has also repaired roads.

He added, “He will win this election as people in Chamrajpet constituency are satisfied with the work he has done and he has managed to gain the trust of people all these years. He won once from the Chickpet constituency and thrice from Chamrajpet.”

Murugan, a Congress worker and social media incharge for Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), who is a resident of Raghavendra Colony, Chamrajpet, said that there a huge possibility of Zameer Ahmed coming back to power again as he has worked   for the development of the poor people.

He added that Zameer had won last elections with a margin of 35,000 votes and this time, he has the possibility of  winning with a margin of 60,000 votes.

Murugan added that the MLA had done several infrastructure development projects like building a hospital, and at the moment, he is repairing the drainage between the 4th and 5th cross road. “Earlier the capacity of the drain was less and couldn’t hold water and now the capacity of the pipeline is being increased.”

He said that the other candidates contesting for the election from the constituency like Bhaskar Rao from BJP and Govinda Raju from JD(S) are not very popular among the people of the area. The BJP contestant Bhaskar Rao is an outsider and not a resident of Chamrajpet and does not know the problem of the people of Chamrajpet. “There is less chance of him winning,” he added.

Nagaraj however said that if the election is fair, then JD(S) contestant Govinda Raju should win as he is a social worker and would work for the betterment of people.

He added that as the present MLA has distributed money and TV sets to people and has been there for a long time, he has a possibility of winning. He also said that 50 percent of the people in Chamrajpet belong to the Muslim community which increases his probability of winning.
