Welfare associations say they keep filing complaints, only to get temporary solutions from government.

Residents of Shanti Nagar are facing problems such as sewage clogged roads, power cuts, road encroachment and many other issues but there is no aid from the government.

Saraswati, 24, a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card holder from Shanti Nagar said, “Government is not doing anything, no one comes in this area to see us, they only visit rich people.”

She said, “The area around my house is very dirty, nobody comes to clean it and we don’t even have enough water supply, so I fill water from the apartments where I work.”

They get free rice and ragi but the grains are full of stones and are not fit for eating, added Saraswati.

Tanuja R, a resident of Shanti Nagar said, “Now the elections are coming up so these people are temporarily fixing roads, potholes otherwise they don’t even think of Basappa Road. This time I have decided to punch NOTA during voting added Tanuja.

A resident of Gokul Apartment said, sewage was the biggest problem in Shanti Nagar and because of which roads are clogged most of the time. Another major problem was the frequent power cuts which affects the children’s academics.

Sashikala, president of Shanthinagar Residents Welfare Association (SRWA) said, “There are no enough pourakarmikas in Shantinagar to clean sewage clogged roads, because of which garbage keeps piling up, making it difficult to even breathe in some areas due to the foul smell.”

Power cut, road encroachment, potholes are also some of the issues troubling the residents of Shanti Nagar. The SRWA has filed complaints with the respective departments, but there are no concrete actions that are taken, added Sashikala.

Ali Jowhar, personal assistant, of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Shanti Nagar, N.A Haris said, “Government is working in these areas to fix to all the problems, I can’t say anything else on this topic for now.”
