Karnataka leaders, Japanese partners mourn the death of Vikram Kirloskar

Toyota top brass flew in from Japan to pay final respects to vice president of Toyota Kirloskar Pvt Ltd, Vikram Kirloskar. Takayuki Ueda, Toyota Tusho Insurance Broker India said, “His death was very sudden and we did not expect it. My team and I flew from Japan as soon as we heard it to express our condolences to his loved ones.”

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between the Japanese company Toyota Motor Company and the Indian Kirloskar Group.

Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka conveyed his condolences in a tweet, “May his soul rest in peace. May God grant the family and friends the strength to bear this loss.”

Vikram Kirloskar died  of a sudden cardiac arrest at Manipal Hospital,Hebbal at 1:00am on Nov 30, 2022.The funeral took place at his Malleshwaram residence. The last rites were conducted at the Chinta Shanti Dham, Hebbal Electronic Crematorium at 1:20pm on Wednesday. The family did not encourage any officials or political heads to attend as they wanted an intimate ceremony.

The funeral was attended by Kirloskar’s wife Geetanjali and daughter Manasi Kirloskar, close family friends and employees from the Toyota Kirloskar company.

Employees and close ones of Vikram Kirloskar, mourn his death. A family friend said that he was deeply saddened by the death of Vikram Kirloskar, a pioneer in the automobile manufacturing industry. He said, “The business will be okay, the next generation will take it forward,” He added that Vikram was from Maharashtra but grew up here in Bangalore so he spoke Kannada fluently and mingled well with everyone around him.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson of Biocon tweeted that she was devastated to hear about Vilkram’s death and that she would miss her friend.

Swami, General Manager at the Bidadi Toyota office said, “He was a great soul and a greater visionary. He built the company and brought in great recognition and revenue for Karnataka.” He added that Kirloskar was also very aware of social responsibility and planned to increase Carbon Neutral Projects.

Officials say that there has been no decision yet on the successor of Vikram Kirloskar, as his daughter is married into the Tata family and looks after that business.  “Mrs. Geetanjali is heavily involved in the company business, she will be the interim head and will later decide who is going to take over,” said the Director at Toyota India.
